Dissociated pulmonary vein potentials: Expression of the cardiac autonomic nervous system following pulmonary vein isolation?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction In the electrically nonisolated pulmonary veins, the cardiac autonomic system has been shown to play an important role in initiating pulmonary vein (PV) ectopy and triggering atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the effects of the cardiac autonomic system on the isolated PV are not currently known. We present the observations from a case where opportunistic stimulation of the autonomic system was performed in the presence of dissociated pulmonary vein potentials (PVPd).

Lessons from dissociated pulmonary vein potentials: entry block implies exit block
AIMS Prior reports using pacing manoeuvres, demonstrated an up to 42% prevalence of residual pulmonary vein to left atrium (PV-LA) exit conduction after apparent LA-PV entry block. We aimed to determine in a two-centre study the prevalence of residual PV-LA exit conduction in the presence of unambiguously proven entry block and without pacing manoeuvres. METHODS AND RESULTS Of 378 patients, 1...

Background and Objective:Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are fatal problems following brain trauma that, if left untreated, can dramatically increase mortality. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and related factors in patients with traumatic brain injury. Materials and Methods:This cross-sectional study was performed on 38 patie...
متن کاملThe Role of the Atrial Neural Network In Atrial Fibrillation: The Metastatic Progression Hypothesis.
With the advent of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) there has been acceleration in our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the etiology of this common clinical arrhythmia. In this regard, the role of the intrinsic cardiac autonomic nervous system in the initiation and maintenance of AF began to receive attention in numerous experimental and clinical investigations. Up to now...
متن کاملThe Autonomic Nervous System and Atrial Fibrillation:The Roles of Pulmonary Vein Isolation and Ganglionated Plexi Ablation.
After the sequential successes of catheter ablation for the treatment of pre-excitation syndromes (WPW), junctional reentry (AVNRT) atrial flutter (AFL) and ventricular arrhythmias, clinical electrophysiologists have focused on the myocardial basis of atrial fibrillation (AF). Thus, the strategy for ablation of drug and cardioversion refractory AF was to isolate the myocardial connections from ...
متن کاملVein of Galen Aneurysmal Malformation and High-output Cardiac Failure in a Newborn
Background: Vein of Galen aneurysm (VGA) is the most common form of symptomatic cerebrovascular malformation in neonates. It develops in a fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy due to unknown reasons, but it is likely to have a genetic etiology. The prognosis of VGA is usually poor, particularly in newborns with heart failure due to high-flow intracerebral shunt. Surgery and endovascular em...
